Securities that are made up of loans from investors are what make up the bonds market. Not restricted to just companies and organizations, governments are one of the leading bond issuers in the world. Investors, private individuals, banks, insurance companies and pension funds are all able to purchase bonds.

The amount one gets paid is controlled entirely by the coupon. The coupon generally states the amount of interest the lender while recover over a set amount of months or years. Because we know the amount of interest paid from the start,bonds are also acknowledged as fixed income rates.

Why trade bonds?. Bonds have some advantages over investments such as trading currencies. It is the purchase of debt and not equity when you purchase bonds. Should tragedy ever befall the bond issuer, say a bankruptcy, creditors (debt-holders) get paid before shareholders do.

Generally, bonds offer a stable investment prospect to the Malaysian public and should be part of your investment portfolio. Those of you in Malaysia that are on the careful side should feel comfortable with the bonds market. Profits are on the low side owing to its conservative nature.
